Rocky Island

Things to do at Rocky Island

At Rocky Island you can do a bit Rock climbing on giant rocks locally named Neel kanta, Pathar Kailas, Bhimsen, Hansdunga, etc. A cave on the river banks is an added attraction of the rock climbing activity. A camping arrangement can also be made for hikers who can stay overnight in tents but with basic amenities. This is one of the best ways to explore deep into the Neora Valley National Park.

Angling is another great fun in the rapid rivulets and Short treks to surrounding destinations like Sherpagaon, Bhalukope, Jhandidara and Mouchuki are also enjoyed by the guests.

Picnics on the rocky, river banks are also a great idea. You can have great fun crossing the narrow river,which is strewn with boulders to find your feet on. You can also simply idle away, with your feet feeling the trickle of the cool river water.

You can easily visit some nearby tourist destinations from this island. Samsing is about 2 km from Rocky Island. Suntalekhola is around another 4 kms. Both these places are famous for the natural beauty and bio-diversity of the Himalayan foothills. You can also visit Neora Hydel Project, which is approx 10 kms from this place. Neora Valley National is a must-visit site.

Malbazar is the nearest rail head but you can travel by road from Siliguri that is around 82 kms. Rocky Island is 19 kms from Samsing.

Best time to visit Rocky Island

As with all other places in the Dooars, this place can be visited most of the time of the year. The monsoons fill up the rivers to the brim and the winters bring the sparkling weather.
